In 1985, a group of family members and friends of the residents at Fair Acres was approached by the Administration, and as a result, Friends of Fair Acres was formed. The goal of this dedicated group was to enrich the lives of all residents through a variety of fundraising and volunteer activities. Today, the goals and activities of the organization remain the same.
Current activities include: Flowers for residents observing their 100th year (and over) birthday; support of an annual fair; deposits to the personal accounts of all residents for the fair and in December for the holidays. Since our inception, we have donated thousands of dollars to a variety of Fair Acres resident projects: furnishing the living room area of the handicapped-accessible Margaret T. Watson Resident Kitchen-Lounge in Building #4; furnishing a resident lounge in Building #6; purchasing sewing machines for three of the buildings; and supplying funds for linens, dinnerware, and flatware for the Cooking Club’s holiday meals. The organization raises funds through a variety of activities including bake sales, and the annual “Bakeless Cake Sale” held in the winter months. Donations and membership dues provide a large percentage of our income. Many memorial gifts are received, and a Memorial Plaque, located in the lobby of Building 8, lists the names of loved ones.
The Friends of Fair Acres is a member of the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania Donor Choice-Specific Care Program (#14653).
Annual membership dues are $10 (Family) or $5 (Individual). Please fill out the membership application form and either stop by in person or send in your dues. Any additional donation is truly appreciated by the residents.
