Friends of Fair Acres

In 1985, a group of family members and friends of the residents at Fair Acres was approached by the Administration, and as a result, Friends of Fair Acres, was formed. The goal of this dedicated group was to enrich the lives of all residents through a variety of fundraising and volunteer activities. Today, the goals and activities of the organization remain the same.

Current activities include: the purchase of trees and shrubs for the annual Arbor Day planting; donations in support of the Fair Acres Crusaders (an organization of residents) who participate in the Multiple Sclerosis Annual Walk at Ridley Creek State Park; flowers for residents observing 100th year (and more) birthdays; monetary prizes for weekly bingo games in each of the buildings as well as two annual campus-wide bingos; support of the Spring Fling, the annual fair held in June; deposits to the personal accounts of all residents in June for the fair and in December for the holidays.

Since our inception, we have donated thousands of dollars to a variety of Fair Acres resident projects: furnishing the living room area of the handicapped-accessible Margaret T. Watson Resident Kitchen-Lounge in Building #4; furnishing a resident lounge in Building #6; purchasing sewing machines for three of the buildings; and supplying funds for linens, dinnerware, and flatware for the Cooking Clubs’ holiday meals.

The organization raises funds through a variety of activities including bake sales, raffles, and the annual Bakeless Cake Sale held in the winter months. Donations and membership dues provide a large percentage of our income. Many memorial gifts are received, and a Memorial Plaque, located in the lobby of Building 8, lists the names of loved ones.

The Friends of Fair Acres is a member of the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania Donor Choice-Specific Care Program (#14653).

Annual membership dues are $10 (Family) or $5 (Individual).
